Three Thirds Design forms the basis for SUNDIRECT’s design approach. It implies that a design attempts to maintain a three third weight relationship between the machine – the fuel – the load.
The phenomenal value of Hemp-derived products will be structural building blocks for all of SUNDIRECT’s products. This is an important factor to keep the weight low and the structural strength high. (Henry Ford already had built a car from Hemp) All motion generated in the machines are powered by electric motors. All electric motor driven power joints come with back-drive prevention features. For road travel, wheel-mounted serial drives perform as motors and generators. The one third fuel factor (the weight of the battery pack on board, and, in many cases, the backup fuel and the SORRG unit) is the key to have enough power reserve to lift the machine into the air, and to bring it down again, safely. These are computer program controlled operations: easily controlled by passenger, or, remotely when no person is on board. The technology that allows all of SUNDIRECT’s airborne vehicles to take off vertically and land vertically is generally known as 3d vectoring.
While the computer technology and applications for 3d vectored aircrafts – including radio controlled aircrafts – had been in use for some time, the mechanical end of that technology still has room to grow. A 560HP Air Thruster Power Box with four, fully controllable air power jets provides the platform that allows SUNDIRECT’s vehicles to travel in air and take off and land vertically. While SORRG can be defined broadly as a range extender (generator), its unique capabilities (and low weight) to harness and process direct sun ray energy makes it a greater value than a conventional power generator. With a SORRG on board for air travel, it becomes possible to keep the aircraft afloat on straight solar fuel generated electricity.
Strong, from the ground-up designed structural parts provides the needed strength for the machine to hold and properly operate all electric drives – and hold HASE (“Hard Solar Energy” battery pack) – and hold the cabin with the load.
A 62kWh HASE block weights 320kg. Including a SORRG and some sf2 fuel, a 400kg on board power unit generally is used for calculating purposes. All vehicles feature a HASE quick change battery block swap system.
The “Global Logistics Operation Bundle,“ or GLOB, is SUNDIRECT’s global server and universal controller. It comes standard with every SORRG and every vehicle. A touch screen operated tablet computer provides access and controls of all needed programs and operational logic to operate all of SD’s machines. GLOB also offers features so the air bound vehicles can be operated remotely.
